Cozy Coven Chats: A Witch’s Journey Back to Simplicity
Start Small And Finish Strong Under The Taurus New Moon
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The fastest way to change your life is to stop waiting for the “perfect” start and take one grounded step you can repeat. This week we’re working with the New Moon in Taurus and the steady, practical energy it offers: begin what you want to finish. That can look mystical and simple at the same time, like lighting a candle for your goal and also doing the tangible thing that moves it forward, naming the business, buying the domain, drafting the first line, opening the savings account, or starting the passport process.
We also pull an angel numbers message, 144 “connect,” and talk about meditation as an act of listening. Instead of pushing for signs, we make space for guidance by tuning in through the crown chakra and letting wisdom meet us in the quiet. If your manifestations have been floating around since spring but still don’t feel embodied, Taurus season is an invitation to ground them into routines, choices, and real commitments.
From there, we return to Divergent Witchcraft and the “Building Your Craft” idea: once you have a foundation, your path opens up into a choose-your-own-adventure. We reflect on allies like plants, crystals, animals, angels, tarot, and movement practices, plus how your environment and curiosity can shift what feels possible. I also share how magic becomes richer when it’s woven into everyday life, from kitchen witchcraft to sewing, crochet, and even blending Qi Gong with spellwork.
If you’re craving a practice that feels steady, personal, and alive, come listen, then share what you’re beginning and what path is calling you next. Subscribe, leave a review, and send this to a friend who needs a little grounded momentum.

Welcome And Weekly Focus
SPEAKER_00Hello, which is this is for the week of May 5th, May 10th. And this is another cozy Coven chat with your host Jenny C. Bell. Thank you for coming back. Um, this week we will return to diving into divergent witchcraft a bit. But before that, we have a new moon in Taurus on May 16th. And it is believed, one of the common uh beliefs about Taurus moons, is that anything you begin under a Taurus moon, you will finish. And so a new moon in Taurus is a really good day to start start something that you want to see through. And so that's the energy I think we need to lean into. So what does that mean? So let's say that you want to start a business, but you're not even ready, right? Under that new moon, you come up with the name. It's like a small step, right? Or you buy the domain or whatever. Um, if you wanted to go on a vacation, you start this, you open the savings account for the vacation, or you start the process to get your passport. It's that kind of energy. Like anything that you want to see through to the end, you start on this new moon. And so it's, you know, it's a good day to set goals, it's a good day, but to also to take the mundane steps. So you can light the candle, you can do the spell, you can set the goals, but then do something that day that starts that process, right? You're writing a book, get it started that day. Even if it's just like a couple of words. It's just the idea that like you're starting and now you're gonna finish it. So the other things with new moon in Taurus is you know, anything that really needs to get grounded too. So if you have had some ambitions, some ideas, some manifestations since spring, and they're not really embodied, becoming embodied yet, becoming something yet, add some energy to them under this new moon. Our card is still from the angel numbers deck, and we got 144 connect. Communicate with the divine. Your angels are urging you to make a connection with the divine in your daily life. They want to strengthen your ability to communicate on a high vibrational level. Sit in meditation right now with your hands on your crown, chakra, the top of your head, and envision yourself opening up to the wisdom of the divine. So it's another idea for the new moon. You know, you're putting out some things, you're taking some steps, and then you're listening in return. You know, that's talked about that before on here, that meditation is an act of listening. So you're making room for listening for advice. And, you know, I know Taurus gets a bad rap for being stubborn, but we're really just really persistent and resilient. Like what someone sees as stubborn, I see as a virtue. Like, I don't give up. I wouldn't be an author if I gave up the first hundred times I was rejected. Like, I wouldn't be. And that's how it is to pursue a creative career. Um, that's how it is to pursue a lot of things. So think about that. Um, in our coven, just want to remind people: if you were thinking about joining us, we're having special guest um this month, Nariana Montofort, talking to us about Firehorse Year and beyond that, and how we can really lean into everything that's going on. When I was at Spirit Northwest, I uh sat in and listened to Ivo Dominguez Jr. And he was talking about how, you know, that song Age of Aquarius was a little early, and that our children's children will not know, will not live in the full age of the aquarium of Aquarius. Like they will not know all the changes, all the dust will have not settled for them. So we're just really beginning this transition. And so if you incarnate it at this time, you're in for transition time, right? It's a lot of change. And we're watching it, like AI and this and that. Um, it's not all of it's good change, and it's messy, and it's like, whoa, you know what I mean? Like, I just think about how different things are from when I was a child, and it's like radical. And I know like my grandparents would say that, but with AI and all this other stuff, I feel like it's even more radical and so quick. So that's what she's gonna talk about. She's talking about this change and embracing it. And anytime I talk to her, I walk away with some new information. I'm like, oh, that's so wise. Because she really knows astrology, and it's hard, it's hard to really know astrology. Um, so yeah, we are talking, going back into looking at um my book, Divergent Witchcraft, and we're in the chapter Building Your Craft: Plants, Crystals, Animals, and Other Allies. So, leading up to this part of the book, we I give a pretty good foundation of practice for anybody, right? Um, and something I've learned is that some people see witchcraft as a hobby. And my books are really about embodying witchcraft and making it your way of life. And so this is building upon a foundation, this chapter. And basically, it's like once you understand some basic things about witchcraft, right? Like how to create a spell, how to create an altar, um, some things about the moon or the seasons, and you're starting to kind of figure things out, then like all of these paths unfold, and it becomes choose your own adventure. There are as many paths as there are witches. And what I want to do in this chapter is give you some key paths that a lot of people are interested in. And so, you know, let's talk about plants. So the plant path is a newer path for me. I am a tourist, so I've always been very like interested and like love the earth, but I lived in a desert and I didn't really connect with that um environment, and I didn't really feel like I could keep plants alive, and I just didn't connect with me, and I was always interested in herbalism, but it felt so unattainable. Something shifted when I moved here to Oregon. I took some foraging classes, we took out our grass, I found a native, um, it's called Plant Oregon, a native uh plant place, and suddenly I know the names of plants like intuitively. Like I'm on a hike and I'm like, oh, there's yarrow, there's nettle, like, and I've never been able to do that in my life. And then I took a year-long herbalism course, and I'm just like, I'm like a plant lady now. I am not one of those people that's as my friend Kristen's really good with houseplants. I'm not great at with houseplants, but I'm really good with foraging. I'm really good with, you know, bringing in bees, you know, planting the right things for bees. And so that's like a newer path to me. And what's cool about like witchcraft and the slow living approach to it is that it's a lifelong journey because we're lifelong learners. And so that's a newer one for me. The first path I got on, which was uh probably of no surprise because my first book is about crystals, was crystals. That was the first like special interest. So, like, once I found a foundation of witchcraft, there was like all these options. So, like I had friends who got into um more like ceremonial magic after like building a foundation. I got a friend who was into um she got really into Egyptian mythology, so you can like dive into a mythology. I got a friend who was really interested in like the crafting part, like she would make these really cool bags and um like little herbal sachets, and then I got into stones and crystals because it just felt like a calling to that, and then I ended up taking a crystal class at 19, and that was the only class available. Like I couldn't take an herbalism class or anything like that, so it just became the path that opened for me, and I'm still I still work with crystals, and not like I didn't ditch them to work with plants, you know. But the idea is that once you kind of have your foundation, you decide well, what kind of path do I want to go down? I definitely had an angel path. I still work with angels, but I was heavily working with angels when I was in Kyle Gray's angel team. I definitely had a part of me that was I took a whole um power animals course, uh shamanism. So there's a part of me that definitely dove into animal connection, was already feeling connected to animals, but definitely felt more. Uh tarot is a path. Uh oracle cards are a path. Being a kitchen witch is a path. Um, dancing, moving your body is a path. There's just it's like endless. And it that's what's cool to me, is that hopefully, like 20 years from now, I'm on a new learning journey. And I'm like, oh wow, like this is such a cool thing. I'm into breath work now or whatever. Like, who knows what will happen. Um, but that's that's the beauty of what we do. So once you feel like you have something established, ask yourself what's lighting you up? What seems like what's the thing you were like, oh I mean, I always wanted drum. I always wanted to do energy healing, you know, I've always wanted to like really get into yoga and practice every day. And then bring your magic to that, bring your witchcraft foundation and your practice to that thing. Um, when I was at Spirit Northwest, I took a Qi Gong class, and that person, uh Renee Collins, he had this long history of Qi Gong and martial arts, and an even longer history of being a ceremonial magician. And one day he's like, What if I put these two things together and I create magical Qigong? And it was a beautiful class, it's a great idea. They there's so many parallels and similarities between witchcraft and qigong, and you can use the energy movement of Qigong in your spell work. I mean, he looked at what two people would see as very different paths and put them together. So think about that for yourself. What is like your common your like actual hobby at the moment, and how can you bring witchcraft to it? Like if you crow crochet or you sew, like what can you sew into those stitches? What magic can go in there? If you cook, that's kitchen witch stuff. Like it can just become part of our life. It can become part of our practice of everything we do. It can become an embodiment. And when it becomes an embodiment and it magic is throughout our life, it just enriches us. Like we really start to shift, we really start to feel healthier and happier, and like everything goes together. And so, really, that's what this chapter is about. It gives some examples of, you know, different paths. And by no means are we limited to that, right? That's kind of what I love. And so I think like something just the you know, move forward when you meet other pagans and witchy people is you can't assume that they know the same thing as you or that they're doing the same thing as you. And that's actually kinda really cool. Because then you can ask questions and be like, okay, so this is how I call in protection. What do you do? This is um how I dress a candle. Do you do that? If so, how do you do that? And I think that we only grow, we only evolve and grow from that. And so, yeah, I really I I want you to think about what's your next adventure. Like, you've if you ever read those choose your own adventure books as a kid, that's really what witchcraft is. It's like once you get into the introduction of it, once you get past that, then now we choose our own adventure, and then we keep choosing until we move on, right? Until we pass from this world. And it might be something where you're like, I don't think this can be connected to witchcraft, but you'd be surprised. You'd be really surprised. So that's the that's the goal for this week is choosing your own adventure. Um, and I love that because our card, going back to our card, um was 144 and it's connect. And they're urging angels are urging you to sit in meditation and envision yourself opening to wisdom. So last week I forgot our journal questions because I was just like so into Spirit Northwest. So sorry about that. So this week's journal questions, new moon and Taurus. What do you want to begin now? And why? Uh 144 connect, right? What is what is it that is coming through for you right now? What envision what are you envisioning? What vision is coming through? And then talking about building around practice, what's your next adventure? What's the next path? What do you want to learn next and why? As always, I hope this um this energy finds you well, and I hope you have a wonderful week. God bless it be.
